Ear Candles
What is Hopi Ear Candle
Ear Candling is a well-established therapy tracing its roots back over hundreds of years. The roots can be found among the people of the Siberian prairies, Asia and the native North and South American Indians. Ancient rock paintings show the use of Ear Candles in initiation rituals and medicinal ceremonies. Hopi Ear Candles are mainly used to remove the excess wax and foreign bodies from the outer ear canal.
Construction and Constituents of the Hopi Ear Candle
The candles are cylindrical and hollow in shape, measuring approximately 22cms in length and 0.5cms in diameter.
All the constituents of the candle are natural ingredients. These include:
* Pure beeswax
* Honey extract
* Sage
* St Johns wort
* Roman chamomile
* Beta-carotene
* Pesticide free woven cotton
How it works
The Ear Candle is lit and inserted into the outer ear canal. As the candle burns the ingredients, which are impregnated into the cotton, they vaporise and are consequently drawn down the hollow tube of the candle and into the outer ear by the chimney effect.
A mild suction occurs and the heat of the released vapours circulates inside the ear and gently massages the eardrum. This action helps to regulate the pressure systems inside the head including the sinuses.
The ascending vapour will contain the impurities such as earwax and foreign bodies. These will either collect at the base of the candle or be burnt off.

What to expect from a Hopi Ear Candle Treatment
At the first treatment a short consultation is taken. Once the consultation is complete, you will be asked to remove all jewellery from the face and neck, glasses and contact lenses. You will then be asked to lie down on your back. A facial massage is given to help enhance the action of the candles and help you relax. Once the facial massage is complete, you will be asked to lie on your side and made comfortable. A massage around the ear is given and the hair is covered. The candle is lit and placed into the outer ear. When the candle has burnt down to approximately 3cms from the base of the candle, it is removed from the ear and extinguished. The process is repeated on the other ear. At the end of the treatment the candles are opened and the contents of what the candles have removed are examined.
